The AMAZING AINSLEY and JUMPING JOYA's
DISAPPEARING AINSLEY IN THE BOX MAGIC TRICK!

Introducing Amazing Ainsley and Jumping Joya, the two wonderful Hub 1 Magicians.
Here is a trick performed by the girls today.
They made Ainsley disappear out of a box. A big thank you to the boys who helped out during the performance to hold up the blankets (they did a great job).

Break through

Mrs England's Break Through Groups:

Friday the 4th of April has been a busy and full on day here in Hub 1.

One of Mrs England's break through groups, The Balloon group, have been reflecting on their break through choice and  have decided to move on and find a new topic/ idea to research. The children felt it was time to move on from balloons as they had researched about their history, found lots of balloon shapes to make and had a go blowing and tying them up.
Half of the group moved into the art group, as they really wanted to research and find out about Origami, while the other half of children wanted to explore their passion in Magic, and were able to join that group.
The Origami group researched its history, coming from Japan. They also researched all of the shapes they would like to explore more in Origami. e.g. flowers, hearts. Here is the website that had a range of shapes to create:

http://en.origami-club.com/

Mrs Ponomaryova brought in a book for the group to look through and many of the shapes are easily created by the children independently.

The Magic group brainstormed all of the tricks and what they know about Magic to know what they wanted to find out about Magic. The boys researched using YouTube all of the tricks they wanted to look into - blowing fire etc. They found out you need to use gloves and water and be aware of the location of the trick, so no one comes to any danger.

The girls carried on with their magic trick of making someone disappear. They thought carefully about what they needed to do to the box to make the trick work. They came up with putting a hole in the bottom of the box, with a door like function so it looks like their is no hole (Its a secret door). Wonderful thinking!

Even though one break through topic has ended (balloons) it is just great to see how the other children have become so focused and interested in their new chosen passion- bring on the next break through! I can't wait to see the exciting ideas and new learning that will come from this new research.

Break Through!

...Mrs England's Break Through Groups...

Today the balloon group researched all about the history and origins of balloons.

Here is an interesting fact we discovered: Did you know that balloons originally were pigs bladders! YUCK! Can you imagine blowing up that!

Brittany and Julia had some time experimenting and researching different types of art forms (origami). They created, with my support, a beautiful bow from watching a YouTube clip- lots of fun and doesn't it look stunning!

Break Through!

Mrs England's Break Through groups have been hard at work today in Hub 1…

The Balloon group managed to ALL blow up their balloons. Many even managed to tie them up!
We decided to stop trying to tie up our balloons, as it was getting to hard to do. We are now researching animals we want to make for next week and going to have a go at making them.

Julia and Brittany were able to experiment with paint and create some wonderful paintings.
Next week they want to experiment with another art media and research some other medias to use to create art.

The magic group researched and found many tricks they can do (40 in 4 minutes) WOW!
This group was so focused today- good on you! They are not going to try out these tricks and bring some materials from home to help them do the tricks.

The dance group had some time in the hall today going over their dance and working together to go over some moves. They are now wanting to organize costumes for their performance and to keep practicing their dance to get better at performing on the stage area.
They also want to create a document explaining all of the roles and dance moves each person can do so that they know who is doing what and as a group they know who can do what and that they are all taking part- good on you girls!

Break Through!

Balloons:

Today the Balloon Group's goal was to blow up and tie a balloon.
Many children had a go at using the pump, but didn't actually blow up a balloon using their mouth.
Some children watched YouTube clips to work out how to tie up a balloon while others experimented using their hands and balloons.

It is a hard skill and the children are struggling with achieving this goal. Next week we may have to use different balloons that the children can easily blow up themselves without a pump and they will actually be able to tie the balloons.

Mujtaba and Carys ACHIEVED their goal! They blew up a balloon, using a pump, AND tied a balloon!!!!! AWESOME WORK!!
Caleb and Taylor had go tying their balloons- Keep trying! :)

Next step...
We didn't have time to look at balloons online. Our next step is to look at balloons online (for experts to have a go) and use NORMAL balloons to blow up and tie.
                           Hip Hop Dance:

The Hip Hop Dance group have been watching YouTube clips of dance moves today learning some basic moves to add in to their dance. Its been amazing watch them learn from the clips and other members in their group.
The girls are enjoying working together and trying out a range of dance moves.

Next Step...
Hannah taught the group some moves.
YouTube clips to learn basic dance moves.
Our next goal is to dance on the stage to know how to move and work as a group on a stage when performing.

                                  Magic:

The Magic group used Google search to discover a new magic trick. Using a scrunched up piece of paper you put the pencil on the paper, you slowly push down on the pencil and the pencil rises and looks like is it is floating.  They also watched YouTube clips to discover how to do different tricks.

Next Step...
We used Youtube and Google to find tricks. We experimented with 2-3 tricks.
Next goal is to find a trick that involves no hands and having something free falling/ standing.
                                   Art:

Julia worked independently, as Brittany was away today. Julia worked on drawing an image and experimenting using water colours and paint brushes. She is becoming familiar working with a paint brush!

Next step...
Used water colours and experimented with paint brushes. House painting, cake and a present.
Next goal: Use actual paint to create the image- diamond.
